Missouri ACP recognizes our members that go above and beyond with our chapter awards. Each year we will seek nominations for the awards listed below. In addition, we have an annual Laureate Award that is chosen by our nominations committee. We also submit member names each year to ACP for numerous national awards.
If you know of an outstanding IM physician that is a member of Missouri ACP, we encourage you to nominate them for one of the awards below. Recipients will be recognized at the Award Reception during the Annual Scientific Meeting in September. Deadline to submit nominations is June 15.

Master Teacher of the Year Award
This award recognizes sustained, outstanding achievement including, but not limited to the following attributes: teaching prowess and academic acumen, displaying exemplary characteristics of care and concern for individual patients, professionalism, and serving as a role model and mentor. Typically this individual is involved with medical students and/or internal medicine residents but a history of peer-teaching with involvement in continuing medical education would be considered. The awardee must be an active member, Fellow, or Master of the American College of Physicians in Missouri. Both full-time members of medical school faculties and volunteer faculty in the community will be considered; when records of equal distinction are presented, preference will be given to outstanding community faculty member.
Leadership Award
The American College of Physicians Missouri Chapter Leadership Award, established in 2021, honors key leaders whose contributions embody the core principles of ACP to enhance the quality and effectiveness of health care, public policy, and/or medical education. The successful nominee will generally have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the areas of legislative advocacy and grassroots activism. The Leader of the year will have consistently communicated concerns on behalf of Missouri ACP to elected officials on issues and served as a community spokesperson on behalf of internal medicine and patients.
Early Career Physician Award
The award recognizes an early career physician of the Missouri Chapter whose energy and initiative have advanced the mission and goals of the Missouri Chapter of the American College of Physicians. The recipient must be a physician member who is within 16 years of graduating medical school and who is not an ACP Medical Student Member or Resident/Fellow Member. Nominees must meet these qualifications as of June 30th of each year considered. Areas of achievement may include leadership; academics, including publishing, teaching, and mentoring; advocacy; and/or volunteerism.
Volunteerism and Community Service Award
Community service is an important attribute of medical professionalism. The Missouri Chapter wishes to annually recognize one member who demonstrates a significant and sustained commitment to the service of others at a local, state, national, or international level. The merits upon which a recipient is selected for this award are based not only on the significance of the contributions that the individual has made, but also on the degree to which the individual reflects and affirms the quality of selfless devotion to the welfare of others. The medically related volunteer efforts must be entirely separate from his/her paid employment and generally represent years of commitment with demonstrable and positive outcomes. The awardee must be an active member, Fellow, or Master of the American College of Physicians in Missouri. Recipients of this award have distinguished themselves as true humanitarians to be honored for their voluntary contributions in medicine.
