Rules

  • Teams of three Missouri Chapter of the ACP Resident Members
  • Participants should currently be in year 1-3 of a Missouri Internal Medicine Residency Program and not a chief or in a fellowship.
  • Three quarterfinal matches will precede the semifinals and finals.
  • One final round with the semi-finalists to determine the winner
  • 15 questions per round

  1. A coin toss will determine which team goes first in each round.
  2. Each match will consist of three categories with five questions each ranging from a value of 100 to 500.
  3. The emcee will read each of the questions, and after the entire question is read it will be projected on the screen.
  4. A team may buzz in before the emcee finishes reading a question; however, the emcee will stop reading the remainder of the question.  You have ten seconds to answer.
  5. No answer should be stated until the emcee recognizes the team which buzzed in first.
  6. After the question has been completely read players have ten seconds to buzz in.  If nobody buzzes in, we move to the next question with the team who made the last selection making the next selection.
  7. Teams will score points for a correct answer. Teams will lose points for an incorrect answer.
  8. After an incorrect answer, the question will be read from the beginning if it was not completely read before the incorrect answer, and the other team may buzz in. If the emcee has completely read the question before an incorrect answer, then the question will not be restated.
  9. The second team has ten seconds to buzz in after the emcee is finished reading.  The second team will have ten seconds to answer after buzzing in.  If the second team chooses not to buzz in we move to the next question with the team that made the previous selection selecting again.
  10. After the 15-question game board has been played, the teams with positive value points are invited to play the final question round. The final question value is determined by each team's wager - anywhere from 0 to 100% of current points. If one team has a negative value at the end of the 15-question round, the team that has a positive value wins that round.
  11. During the final question round (after the 15 questions have been completed), each team will be given a wager sheet and a final answer sheet. The final question category will be announced, then teams will write down their wagers. Wager sheets will be collected before the final question is read. The final question will be read and each team has 30 seconds in which to write an answer on their final answer sheet. Each team will write down their final answer, and those answer sheets will be collected.
  12. The emcee will announce the answer, the wagers of each team and the answers from each team. The team answering the questions correctly will have their wager added to their total score. Teams answering incorrectly will have their wager deducted from their total score.
  13. If tied after the final question, the team with the most number of correct answers will be the winner.
  14. The Missouri Chapter of the ACP has a buzzer system with lockout so it will determine which team buzzed in first.
  15. Although we have made every attempt to avoid equivocal or controversial topics, debate over any answers will be settled by our panel of judges comprised of IM Program Directors and Associate Program Directors.
  16. Software malfunctions may happen, and in these circumstances, the emcee has the authority to correct any procedural errors caused by malfunctions in the game software. This includes (but is not limited to) buzzer malfunctions, and/or the software recognizing the wrong team as having control of the board.
  17. Finally, the primary rule is to have fun and learn.
